Start With the Hallmark

A carat label describes purity, not whether a piece is automatically a better purchase. Read the hallmark or product specification, then use the matching rate row. A piece with stones, mixed materials or an uncertain gross weight needs a clearer breakdown before its metal value can be calculated.

Keep the Invoice Separate

The rate board explains the metal reference. A jeweller quotation can add workmanship, stones, brand premium, resizing, delivery or return conditions. Record those lines separately so a comparison between carats does not turn into a comparison between unlike finished products.

Practical Answers

Gold Carat Questions

Which carat should I use to price an item?

Use the exact carat marked on the item or stated on the invoice. A 24K headline is a reference for pure gold; it is not a substitute for a 21K, 18K or 14K jewellery rate.

Why do two carats have different per-gram rates?

Each carat contains a different proportion of gold. The displayed rates keep those purity differences visible before any workmanship, stones, brand value or shop charge is added.

Can I compare the total price of two different carats?

Only after separating the carat, net gold weight and each extra charge. A lower total can reflect less gold, a lighter item or different workmanship rather than a better gold-rate offer.
